How did you become involved with the CFK Foundation?
Colin was one of my very best friends growing up and I remained close with his family after his passing, always participating in the Colin Cup. Throughout the early years of the Colin Cup, we would often discuss making the event bigger and creating a formal non-profit organization to honor Colin, and late in 2014, upon moving back to Rochester and through meetings and discussions with the Kennedy family, I helped form the CFK Foundation, serving as chairman for several years.
What is it that motivates you to give back to your community?
Growing up in the city of Rochester and seeing the lack of opportunities and many hurdles families encountered drives me to give back and help provide more chances for those that may not have them otherwise. With a focus on children, we can impact the long term success of our community, providing opportunities for underserved youth and families to succeed.
What challenges do you see for our future generations?
Continued tensions domestically and abroad
What brings you gratitude in life?
Providing opportunities and seeing good people succeed.
How do you define success?
The pursuit of excellence and having a purpose that you are passionate about
Why is it important to you to give back?
Provide opportunities to those not fortunate enough to have them, impacting the long term success of the community and society
What does “community” mean to you?
To me, a community is a group of people working together towards a common goal and objective. A group of people that support one another, help, encourage and love in good times and bad.
Who inspires you?
My family and friends
How do you prepare yourself to overcome hurdles professionally & personally?
Be humble, take chances, be patient, focus on best practices and the “bright spots”, and listen
If you had all the money in the world, what would you do with it?
Share it
What does the next 5 years for the CFK Foundation look like?
Increased community presence/ partnership, developing deeper relationships with those that we have helped (both individuals and organizations), and broadening our reach to help more underserved youth.
